July 24, 2010 – SAN DIEGO – ICONS is a two-part event to be held on Saturday July 24, 2010 at the Horton Plaza Event Center located above Sam Goody in Horton Plaza mall.
The first part of ICON will be held during the day featuring a tremendous array of pop culture vendors, heavily themed performances, a geek-inspired runway fashion show, and film screenings with panels. The second part of ICON takes place during the night featuring a costume dance party with DJs, pop culture-themed performances, lounge areas, and video projections.
Meet the Universal Dead cast at ICONS!
DB Sweeney (Captain John Trent in UNIVERSAL DEAD)
has been in over 60 movies and TV shows, including FIRE IN THE SKY, THE
CUTTING EDGE, EIGHT MEN OUT, MEMPHIS BELLE and TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE.
He played recurring characters on TV's JERICHO and on the last season of
24.
Doug Jones (Dr. Henry Vataber in UNIVERSAL
DEAD) isn't always recognized because his movie roles (in some
blockbuster movies) usually have him in costume. Doug played Abe Sapien
in both HELLBOY movies, he was the Silver Surfer in FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE
OF THE SILVER SURFER and he played both Pan and The Pale Man in PAN'S
LABYRINTH. It was recently announced that Doug will play Frankenstein in
the Guillermo del Toro remake of I, FRANKENSTEIN.
Gary
Graham (Dr. David Macavoy in UNIVERSAL DEAD) has had many TV and movie
roles, including Vulcan Ambassador Soval in STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE and
Detective Sikes in the TV series ALIEN NATION. He was also the star of
the sci-fi classic ROBOT JOX.
Valerie Perez (Angela Vataber in UNIVERSAL
DEAD) played Lara Croft in the fan film TEARS OF THE DRAGON. She's also
the star of the online "Paula Peril" series, including the soon to be
release PAULA PERIL: THE INVISIBLE EVIL. ICON occurs on the single-busiest day in San Diego’s downtown area. It is estimated that nearly 400,000 people will descend in and around the city’s convention center. According to Horton Plaza statistics, the same day last year drew 42,000 attendees to the already-popular mall.
“This is the second collaboration between West Coast Club Life and Jon Block Creations following our MASQUERADE: NEW YEAR’S EVE at Birch North Park Theatre & West Coast Tavern,” said co-producer Jon Block. “That was a large production, but we’re going much bigger with this one while continuing our tradition of working with the finest in fashion, music, and art.”
The first part of ICON runs from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is $5.00 and open to all ages; beer and wine will be available. The second part of ICON is from 9 pm to 2 am (producers will likely extend to 4 am). Admission is $15.00 and 21 & up only; there will be multiple full-service bars.
